About Walter O. Koenig

 
Walter O. Koenig is a native of Cologne, Germany, and has lived in England, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, Singapore, Sweden, and the USA. He studied History and German Literature and has worked in the Manufacturing,Wholesale, Shipping and Import/Export Industries. He is a partner in an International consulting firm and has been a Professional Researcher in a variety of areas, such as Copyrights, Patent and Trademarks, International Business and Law, as well as wide-ranging scholarly research. He is listed as a General Researcher by the Reference Service of the Library of Congress, Washington, DC and is a Registered Researcher at the U.S. Archives and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has conducted research at the U.S. Departments of Commerce, Justice and State, U.S. Congress and at many University and private Libraries. He was granted a Research Facility Assignments in the Humanities and Social Sciences Division of the Library of Congress (1994-1997) and was a Scholar in the Office of Scholarly Programs at the Library of Congress (1997-1999).
 
He is a bibliophile and collects books on a wide variety of subjects including the following subjects: Anthropology, Archeoastronomy, Archeology, Architecture, Art, Astronomy, Biography, Buddhism, Geography, Hinduism, History, Interior Design, Linguistics, Literature: (English, German, Javanese, Russian and Sanskrit) Literary Criticism and Theory, Eastern and Western Philosophy, Photography, Travel, and both, Wayang Golek and Wayang Kulit, the Classical Puppet Theater of Java.
 
He became interested in Wayang Golek, the classical puppet theater of West Java when he lived in Indonesia from 1972 to 1976. The study of Wayang Golek led to his interest in Sanskrit literature, particularly the Mahabharata, and he has conducted extensive research on both Wayang Golek and the Mahabharata for many years. Walter owns two complete sets of Wayang Golek Puppets, both made in Bogor West Java, one in the 1930s and the other between 1991 and 1994. These have been exhibited at George Washington University, the Library of Congress, and several galleries where he also lectured on Wayang Golek. He has also collected numerous research materials on Wayang Golek and Sanskrit Literature and Indian Philosophy.
